• Dead Tired should be compulsory viewing for every General Practitioner in Australia. So many sleep-related diseases (and accidents) could be avoided altogether if the family doctor had a better awareness of sleep-related disorders and the debilitating effects for sufferers. 5 stars for this excellent documentary!

 • Congratulations with your blog. My younger brother had worked all day till late in the night. Then he jumped in his car to go home because the next day his girlfriend had her birthday. You can imagine what happended. half way he fell asleep and ended up beside the road having just a broken leg. They operated him to place a metal plate. That plate was not sterile and his leg got infected. He spend a year in the hospital with his leg open from the hip to the knie. You can imagine what impact that had on him. He is a free lance cameraman. I hope you have a lot of success with warning people that sleep is a very serous issue. All the best :-) Jeanne

 • Using Magnesium Chloride oil, transdermaly (e.g. "Ancient Minerals"), has really helped me. Checkout Dr Mark Sircus' website regarding the necessity for, and benefits of, MAGNESIUM : www.imva.info

 • Yes, it appears magnesium has a significant positive influence on insomnia. I lifted this from an article on the subject. "There are many people in the Western world who do not get enough of magnesium in their diet, if you take large amount of coffee, sugar, alcohol and salt then the magnesium count in your body decreases and insomnia is caused by the deficiency of magnesium. In a clinical trail a few years back the patients suffering from insomnia were given magnesium as a sleep remedy and no wonder this worked. Those people improved their sleep a lot after the trial period was over. You should also remember that excessive amount of anything is not good and is also not suggested. You need to be under control similarly in case of magnesium you need to stay in a limit. High dose magnesium can cause problems like nausea, flushing, irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, and other general weaknesses. You should not by any means take more than 2g magnesium per day." Good to hear you are sleeping better because of it. Casper

 • I haven't slept in two years. My body vibrates like a parked car with the engine running, all the time. I wasn’t in a war or beaten up or in a near fatal accident. I hadn’t been diagnosed with something horrific or life threatening. I woke up one week after coming back from seeing my mother in a secure unit in a Dublin mental hospital with elderly dementia, to a severely pounding heart. That night sleeplessness and the total horrors that went on for six days. In the last two years I have had every medical test possible and nothing shows except relative good health for a man my age. The doctors keep saying to me: Panic Disorder or PTSD… I remain fairly unconvinced - It feels determinedly physical not psychological at all. So, I have chased other words and acronyms around my head and my kepyboard, words like cortisol, adrenaline, COPD, asthma, ZMA, yoga, meditation, tremors, vibrations, ME, hyperadrenia, constant erection, more-energy-than-I-know-what-to-do-with, anxiety, the shakes, neediness, nicotine, caffeine, Remeron, psychiatrists, valium, anti-depressants, suicide, melatonin, prayer, AA…god the list goes on ad infinitum. Its been a battle not to pull the ol' gin bottle down from the cupboard over the cooker and get to some heavy drinking but I am fortunate I already don't do that. Instead, a part from the odd bellowing scream, I…. swim, cycle, meditate, down dog, walk, get massaged, have sex, drink tea, take ginseng and vitamin A, B, C, D, zinc, magnesium, ginkgo… and so on. I used to dance when I was well, in my bedroom, directly after my feet hit the floor in the morning, without fail. Could be Bach or Donna Summer. God, I loved that - even at 46 it was still working. Now, only 48, not quite so full of bounce, scraping the face off the pillow in the morning. And another thing, that doctors haven’t even ever once heard me say: I have never been so well. Not a single cold, fever, upset stomach, rash, toothache, sore gum, spot, pimple in the last two years. Makes me believe cortisol is pumping through my system at a hell of a rate inhibiting my immune response from any kind of infection at all. Even when I smoke I never cough, never feel any physical side effects. Used to be that three cigarettes would make me heave. Now, well, sometimes I don’t even feel alive anymore except I know I have a pulse and can lift weights and run on the tread mill. None of it makes sense. Oh, and I feel like crying a lot, at the slightest thing actually, except, I also don’t seem to have the same response from my sense world either that I used to. The shivers almost never happen anymore. I need my mind more than I ever did in the past. The body is failing me. There are just… "Too many riddles weigh man down on earth. We guess them as we can, and come out of the water dry. The devil only knows what to make of it. God and the Devil are fighting and their battlefield is the heart of man."

 • Insomania is really a very bad disorder. Only those people knows about it which are suffering from this disease. Finally we need sleeping pills to get rid of this disorder.

 • I actually wrote an article on this a while back. Our busy lifestyles, late bedtimes, lack of bedtime routines and too much sugar/preservatives are a lot of the reasons that children have trouble sleeping at night. Add that to televisions in the bedroom, which disrupt sleep and it's no wonder that our children are just as sleep deprived as we are. I have researched sleep and those factors that affect sleep thoroughly while working with http://www.qmattresses.com/ and I really think that parents should take the time to educate themselves on sleep issues for themselves and their children. Thank you for your efforts to help make sleep education possible for others.
